Regal Treats

We are all aware of the pending Royal Wedding, how can we not be?? Everywhere you look there are constant reminders that soon we will have an extra special excuse to eat loads of bad things, drink copious amounts of alcohol and watch telly all day and night, rejoice!

So to get you in the mood I've decided to create a little something in order to inspire and ignite the royalist within... Or indeed just give you a valid reason to make ample amounts of sweet treats to rinse down with your Lambrini, cough cough, I mean Pimms darling!

All the design ideas shown are easy to reproduce, using pre made decorations and simple techniques. All products can be sourced at Card and Cake Craft (7-8 North Gallery, Exchange St, Sheffield 0114 272 8606)

The Royal Wedding cake

Fiona Cairns

Fiona Cairns has been chosen  to create the Royal Wedding cake. Fiona is well known within the industry for designing commercial cakes for the likes of John Lewis, Waitrose Harrods and Selfridges & co.

I'm surprised and slightly disappointed if I'm honest, that the mammoth task to feed six hundred, wasn't offered to a new an up-and-coming cake designer with fresh, new, innovative ideas, or perhaps someone high profile like Peggy Porchen or Zoe Clarke with extensive contemporary cake design and decoration skills. Ultimately, its Wills and Kates wedding day and indeed their choice, who the hell am I to comment?!

The royal cake will consist of a multi-tiered fruit cake decorated with fresh fruit and flowers. The cake is said to feature the couple's intertwined initials and includes the symbols of the four British nations - an English rose, Scottish thistle, Welsh daffodil and Irish shamrock. There will be no colour, just ivory and white.

This all sounds very traditional to me but I could be completely wrong. I hope I'm pleasantly surprised by Fiona's culinary design skills, maybe this is the long awaited return of royal icing?

Only time will tell, 17 days to go!

Stancliffe Hall Wedding Open Day

This Saturday 9th April I will be unveiling 4 new designs at Yorkshire's newest addition for period wedding venues, Stancliffe Hall. There will be many reputable suppliers exhibiting including some of my personal favourites, Shoot Lifestyle Photography, Leona Seymour and Go Glorious.

The fayre is operating by Invitation only, so make sure you register for your chance to be one of the first to see this delightful establishment.

Rock My Wedding Feature

Great news!  Rock My Wedding have featured some of the fantastic images from our photo shoot at Whirlowbrook Hall, Sheffield

The event styled by Go Glorious, was an old county rose theme. Petalis were responsible for the beautiful flowers and Freya supplied all the stunning dresses. Jam hairdressers created all the period hair styles and make up was by Julia Jeckell . Shoot lifestyle were responsible for all of the fantastic images. My contribution included a five tier cake, cookies and cup cakes to emulate the rose design on the crockery.

Keep your eyes open for my blog on how and why the photo shoot came about but for now check out our feature.

Thanks to all at Rock My Wedding for appreciating all our hard work and design ideas.
